Dear Business Owner:
Thank you for your interest in participating in the fourth ANNUAL NORTHERN UTAH STEM CAREER AND COLLEGE EXPO on November 4, 2019, at the Davis Conference Center in Layton in association with Davis, Weber, Ogden and Morgan County School Districts. Please click here to register for the event.
Based on last year’s results, the STEM CAREER AND COLLEGE EXPO will make students more aware of opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields, will increase student interest in STEM careers, and will familiarize students with Utah businesses that offer STEM careers.
Vision and Overview:
The students of Davis, Weber, Ogden, and Morgan school districts need education and training in STEM fields to prepare them for success in today’s changing world. To address this need, we are constantly identifying avenues to foster student enthusiasm for STEM careers and to provide students with opportunities to explore STEM fields, investigate educational pathways, and work in partnership with STEM industry.
We believe it is especially critical to provide authentic experiences for students to collaborate with local STEM-based businesses. With the generous support of our sponsors Andeavor, The STEM action Center, and Weber State University, the Davis, Weber, Ogden and Morgan school districts are able to provide this experience at the Northern Utah STEM CAREER AND COLLEGE EXPO.
We will host this event on Monday, November 4, 2019, at the Davis Conference Center. Our vision is that this exposition will continue to be an annual opportunity for students to engage with multiple STEM-based businesses and higher-education institutions so that they will have the necessary information to make informed career path decisions. Your support and involvement is an essential component to the success of this venture, and we look forward to future collaboration in ensuring a well-prepared and educated workforce.
Event Specifics:
There are two main components to the Exposition. The first is the High School Panel sessions which will consist of students attending up to four STEM area specific panel discussions. Students will also get lunch and the opportunity to explore the Exhibit Hall on their own. For the high school panel session, we anticipate 800+ high school students, teachers, counselors, and administrators will participate from Davis, Weber, Ogden and Morgan school districts.
In addition to these events, a Family STEM Exposition will run from 4:30 -7:30 PM and will be open to parents, junior high students and elementary students of Davis, Weber, Morgan and Ogden school districts. The family session will consist primarily of interaction with the approximately 65 businesses and higher education institutions in the Exhibit Hall.
Exhibitor Expectations:
Each exhibitor will have a 10X10 booth in the Exhibit Hall and will need to have at least one representative in the exhibit booth during expo hall operation hours. Booth setup will be between 7:00 am - 9:45 am. Expo hours are 9:45 am - 2:00 pm, where you will meet primarily with high school students and teachers, and 4:00 pm–7:30 pm, where you will meet primarily with K-12 teachers and families. Note that from 9:45 to 2:00, the groups will be alternating between workshops and the exhibit hall so there will be approximately +400 at a time.
We are asking exhibitors to ensure that your exhibit is interactive, providing fun, engaging hands on activities as these types of exhibits are the most successful. It is also expected and greatly appreciated that your organization plans to stay for the day event and night event.
Panel Participants:
You will need to be at the conference center by 8:00 a.m. for your panel. As part of your panel experience you will be asked a variety of questions about careers in this industry where you will be able to answer questions specific to your company. It is easiest to enter through the north-western most door of the entrance circle. You will not need to bring anything other than being prepared for the questions from the panel. The panel questions will be sent to you at least a week before the discussion so you can prepare but remember you will also be answer non scripted questions from the student base.
